Liposuction is a cosmetic surgery for remodelling some areas of the silhouette by the suction of fat deposits resistant to dieting. This procedure has been performed for over 25 years, but there are now other alternatives that may be less expensive and with fewer side effects to consider. Fat reducing techniques are continuously evolving, and several options are now possible.
Here is an overview to help you find your way.
HOW IT WORKS
Liposuction involves removing excess fat through a small tube inserted into a specific region of the body of excess fat. Common areas that can be treated are the buttocks, thighs and stomach and most recently the knees, calves, ankles, neck, arms and chin.
The surgery is usually done by local anaesthesia, which reduces the risk of complications. The plastic surgeon will insert a thin tube in the area to operate, release an anaesthetic solution, adrenaline and bicarbonate to prevent bleeding, drain the fat – locally reducing the sensations of pain and reduce bruising. Then the fat is removed from problem areas. The operation lasts 1 to 3 hours.
You will need to wear a compression sleeve or an elastic bandage over the treated area for 2 to 4 weeks to prevent bruising and allow the skin and fat tissue to retract correctly. Sometimes it is recommended to take antibiotics for a few days to avoid any risk of infection.
The results from liposuction are seen after three weeks and are complete after six months.
The risk of complications is quite low; however, some individuals do experience complications. It is entirely normal to see swelling and bruising following any surgery. Rare complications include bleeding, unexpected skin reactions and infection.
CoolSculpting destroys fat by cold temperatures. This innovative technology uses a controlled cooling method to freeze and eliminate unwanted fat cells without the need for surgery with no recovery time. When the fat cells die, the body gradually removes them naturally through the lymphatic system. CoolSculpting works great on the stomach, love handles and inside thigh regions.
Treatment sessions last for 1 to 2 hours. When the cold temperature is activated, an intense cold sensation is felt during the first few minutes, but it dissipates quickly. Any discomfort felt during treatment is minimal; the session is very relaxing and most people watch tv, work on their laptops or even make a nap during their treatment.
The CoolSculpting procedure is non-invasive and non-surgical, thus it requires absolutely no recovery time. Some experience bruising, tingling, redness or numbness but this is temporary and eventually disappears altogether. Results are visible after one treatment. Some patients see changes within the first three weeks after their CoolSculpting session, however, the most dramatic results are visible one to three months after treatment.
WHERE TO GO
There are several clinics which now offer Coolsculpting in Australia. But, one clinic in particular known for its experience, reputation and service are non-surgical liposuction experts in Sydney, Dr Saras & Co who specialise in CoolSculpting as well as other fat reducing body contouring procedures.
LipoSonix is a noninvasive treatment. High-Intensity ultrasound is used to target fat to destroy and eliminate fat cells in the skin. A high temperature of 56C is reached for just one-second, which prompts the death of the targeted cells. Fat referred attacked continuously, and the dermal layer is not damaged. The natural healing process and disposal of the organisation are responsible for discharging the treated adipose tissue.
High intensity focused ultrasound
The Liposonix treatments usually take place over approximately one hour. Patients may feel a moderate to high level of discomfort during treatment; with sensations of hot, cold, prickling or tingling. Following treatment, patients may see some redness, bruising and experience minimal discomfort.
Most patients notice results with a single Liposonix treatment. However, the final results are normally seen between 8 to 12 weeks after treatment.
If you are thinking about undergoing other medical aesthetic procedures, just remember that fat reduction and weight loss are not the same thing. If you lose weight, your fat cells will shrink, but the number of fat cells stays the same.
So, when you gain weight, these fat cells will grow larger. Make sure that the treatment you receive reduces the number of fat cells in the treated areas, because once fat cells are removed, they are gone for good, and the results are durable.
